iOPS reveals BlueQ 4GB DAP

iOPS reveals BlueQ 4GB DAP: "Filed under: Portable Audio, Portable Video

If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, then it seems like Korean manufacturer iOPS has mad love for almost all of the major DAP makers on the market. Having already taken design cues from Samsung's YP-U1 and Apple's iPod mini -- they actually got sued for that one -- it looks like the company now has its sights set on the iRiver Clix with its latest offering, the BlueQ. Formerly known as the Q18, this model sports a 1.8-inch, 262,000-color screen, up to 4GB of flash storage capacity, and most impressively, Bluetooth support for wireless enjoyment of your tunes or 30fps vids. Expect to see the BlueQ in stores sometime in mid-August for an unknown price, but probably not in the US. Watch out Sandisk and Creative -- we hear that iOPS' engineers just got their hands on a Sansa and Zen V.

Samsung's HL-S5679W LED DLP gets real

Samsung's HL-S5679W LED DLP gets real
For those patiently awaiting the release of the first LED backlit HDTVs, your time draws near, friends. Step aside, NuVision -- Samsung's officially posted their HL-S5679W LED-backlit 1080p DLP HDTV, which should result in a 20,000 hour lifespan with faster startups and even better color using the already infamous colormongering DLP system. You'll also get such features as dual HDMI inputs, a 4,000:1 contrast ratio picture, and Samsung's DNIe Digital Natural Image Engine. Perhaps most surprisingly, however, is the 56-incher can be found listed online for less than $4,000, even if it is still in 'coming soon' status.

Gigabeat S shipping May 15?

Gigabeat S shipping May 15?:
We've been waiting for a chance to pick up a Toshiba Gigabeat S media player since we first got a chance to check it out at CES in January. And now it looks like the wait may soon be over. While Toshiba has yet to officially announce a US rollout, Engadget reader One.Person pointed us to HIDEF Lifestyle, which has the model available for preorder, with a ship date of May 15th. Of course, it could just be a ploy to bring in pre-orders, and we should point out that Amazon -- which is usually a pretty accurate source -- has the Gigabeat S listed with a May 30th ship date. Hey, after waiting since January, either date is fine with us, though we wouldn't mind getting our hands on this before Memorial Day, so we can break it out as soon as we open the Engadget beach house."

JoyTech's LCD makes your Xbox 360 portable -- or something

JoyTech's LCD makes your Xbox 360 portable -- or something: "Filed under: Displays, Gaming

Yeah, we've seen plenty of LCDs haphazardly attached to about every recent console out there in hopes of creating a portable system of sorts, but we're not sure they've ever looked quite as ridiculous as this 9.2-incher from JoyTech. Sure, 9.2-inches is a decent bit of display as far as these setups go, and the 800 x 480 widescreen resolution is welcome, but with as hot as the 360 gets already, we don't think it'll take very kindly to having its side vents sealed off by a hunk of plastic. We also can't imagine this thing riding on your lap while you game in the backseat of your next roadtrip, but it doesn't look like even JoyTech would presume that, and instead probably hope to squeeze this into a few tight dorm rooms that would otherwise resign to being entries in Xbox 360 Fanboy's most pathetic 360 setup contest."

Creative Gigaworks G550 Wireless Speakers

Creative Gigaworks G550 Wireless Speakers: "Strange... we can't find these anywhere else but the seem so delightfully cool. This speaker set is completely wireless—the sub-speakers don't even have power cords. While the link a kind reader sent us is translated from French, it's almost impossible to find anything else about this set. See, paragraphs like this:

Among the obstacles with the installation of a system surround in its environment of leisures or work, the presence of many sons belongs to most often quoted.

Stealth Tabletop from Design Concepts

Stealth Tabletop from Design Concepts: "Want to hide your PC rather than flaunt it? This design concept of a Stealth Tabletop looks like a designer coffee table, but boot up the multimedia PC hiding underneath, and there's a screen that magically appears.

Design Concepts from the UK sees this tabletop in corporate reception areas and in fancy houses where people want to hide the PC but still have it nearby. Neat stuff, maybe someday this could even be built and available.

MSI D310 portable media player with built-in DVB-T receiver

MSI D310 portable media player with built-in DVB-T receiver: "Filed under: Portable Video

We've seen quite a few portable media players with built in digital receivers. Unfortunately (for those of us on this side of the Pacific, that is), most are DMB models designed for use in Korea. However, MSI is now rolling out the D310, a PMP with a Freeview receiver, which means that it'll work anywhere that uses DVB-T for digital broadcasting. That covers much of Europe, Australia and parts of Asia and South America. As usual, North Americans will have to sit this one out. In addition to a DVB-T receiver, the D310 includes a 4.2-inch display, SD card slot, and compatibility with MPEG-4 video and MP3 audio files."

Marantz's new VP-11S1 1080p DLP projector

Marantz's new VP-11S1 1080p DLP projector: "

Marantz has a new projector, but you'd better listen up, because even if they're not incredibly well known for their HD gear this side of the Pacific, this thing's a DLP powerhouse. Their freshly minted VP-11S1 features a full 1080p high definition picture, Konica Minolta lens, 6,500:1 contrast ratio, pumps out 700 ANSI lumens, and has dual HDMI, dual component, VGA, S-Video, and composite video inputs -- all for a mere 1,800,000. Ahem, that's about $15,300 US. In other words, you'll have a little time to scrap for spare change before they release this thing Stateside -- if they release this thing Stateside.
